Although there’s plenty to do on-site, a 20-30 minute drive to several Lake Michigan beach towns make us the perfect stopping point. One way to spend the day is with a delightful day trip to South Haven, MI this summer! Here are just a few of our favorite spots for planning your getaway.
Kal- Haven Trail
Explore the beautiful wooded Kal-Haven Trail for biking or walking trail, which runs 33.5 miles from South Haven to Kalamazoo. This trail winds through the countryside past farmland and small towns with a beautiful arbor of trees. You’ll find several access points near The Castle.
*Royal Recommendation: Park your car at the South Haven Trailhead for a shorter bike ride ending downtown South Haven. Ask your Innkeeper for the most direct route from the Inn and for a Kal-Haven trail map.
Walk along the channel and the pier connecting to beautiful South Beach.
Royal Recommendation: Grab an ice cream cone downtown at Kilwin’s and enjoy it on your walk along the pier.
McIntosh Orchards
Just outside of downtown South Haven, McIntosh Orchards features a range of hard ciders and fruit wines in their tasting room located amidst a beautiful orchard. McIntosh’s wrap around porch is full of gliders, benches and tables to enjoy a glass of wine or hard cider right on site overlooking the orchard.
Royal Recommendation: Ask for a flavor shot of one of their fruit wines mixed into your mug of hard cider for the perfect taste of summer.

Su Casa Mexican Restaurant
Su Casa is an authentic Mexican restaurants in the area with updated atmosphere and windows overlooking downtown South Haven.
Taste Restaurant
Taste is a martini bar and small plate restaurant featuring amazing sandwiches and inventive small plates perfect to mix and match any time of day.
Clementines
a local and tourist favorite, Clementines is a family-owned restaurant that is the staple of many South Haven visits. We recommend a lunch time stopping point.
Sherman’s Dairy Bar
Located just before you hit downtown South Haven on Phoenix Road, Sherman’s Dairy Bar is a great stopping point after a day at the beach, on the bike trails or of boutique shopping.
Royal Recommendation: Sherman’s ice cream is amazing, but even their smallest portions are extra large!
